1.Translate AbiWord AbiWord 2 in many Quechua dialects

Right now a group in the Universidad Nacional de Micaela Bastidas de Apurimac (UNAMBA) is organizing a translation of AbiWord in the Runasimi of Apurimac. We hope to make many dialectical versions of AbiWord. We hope that Quechua speakers from Bolivia, Peru, Equador, Northwest Argentina, and Southern  Colombia can make versions of AbiWord in their dialects.

2. Create a quechua dictionary of computer terminology
We are working to create a web site where we can discuss how to translate computer words.  We want to offer the community the opportunity to offer their opinions and suggestions in order to arrive at a consensus in the translation.  We need people who know PHP and mySQL to do the programming and translators and linguists to help create the dictionary.

3. Create a Hunspell dictionary for spell-checking Quechua
Because the majority of Quechua speakers are only trained to read and write in Spanish, it is important that they have tools which train they to write in the Spanish alfabet. We are going to start copying the words from the Diccionario Quechua-Español, Qheswa-Español Simi Taqe from the Academia Mayor de la Lengua Quechua published by the Municipality of Cusco in 1995 (2005).  After copying all the words in the dictionary, we need to pass through the list of words and update the spelling. We are also looking for linguists who want to pass through the list of verbs and indicate which infijos can be joined with which verbs.

4. Make AbiWord bilingual and adapt it to Quechua
We need to enlarge buttons and create more space in the dialog boxes of AbiWord because many Quechua frase are longer than in English or Spanish. In addition, we want to make a bilingual version of AbiWord. We need volunteers who know C++ and GTK+ to do the programming.

5. Improve and complete the Southern Bolivian Quechua translation of AbiWord
Around 10% of AbiWord is still not translated.  In addition, our translation uses too many loan words from Spanish.

6. Spell-checking for Southern Bolivian Quechua
We have created a Southern Bolivian Quechua dictionary for spell-checking, but it is still very preliminary. We need people to pass through the list and correct the spelling and add to the list of words.

7. Spell-checking for Inga (Colombian Quechua)
With the words found in Diccionario Inga-Castellano by Francisco Tandioy and an anthropologist, we have begun to create an Ingan dictionary for spell-checking. We already have the pre-dictionary file, but we need to eliminate duplicate words and add infixes to the verbs. 

8. Improve this web page
A more graphical presentation would help this web page. We also need a Quechua translation.  We want to make a web page in PHP and mySQL for the quechua dictionary of computer terminology.

9. Spread the use of software in Quechua
We are looking for volunteers who want to burn CDs of our software and carry them to every cyber-cafe and school in their area. We need to convince network administrators to install and support software in Quechua. We also need to publicize the existence of our software so that people know of its existence.

10. Create a version of The Open CD in Spanish
theopencd.org and ubuntuhave created a CD for spreading the use of the Free/Libre/Open Source Software with the best programs for both Windows and GNU/Linux. We want to create a version of this CD in Spanish, because it will help promote the distribution of our software as well.

1. Translate other free software
Our dream is the create a whole set of software packages in Quechua so that Quechua speakers are never forced to use software in English or Spanish.  If we could translate OpenOffice, Mozilla Firefox, and GNOME, the people would have alternatives to Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and Windows, respectively. 

2. Create spell-checkers for many dialects
We have plans to copy words from other dictionaries for spell-checking in other dialects of Quechua. 

3. Add a "sounds like" feature to Hunspell
Hunspell can not correct misspelled words very well because it doesn't have a "sounds like"feature to match words by their sound.  In order to correct confusable vowels and consonants in Quechua, we need to change the source code of Hunspell to add this function. 

4. Create a Wiki-Diki (wiki-dictionary) for indigenous and minority languages
We would like to create a web site where speakers of indigenous and minority languages can record and define their languages and dialects.
